I’m a big fan of Wayne Dyer and his work. I find he is both inspiring and insightful. In a video I watched not too long ago, he talked about the words I AM. Here’s what he said.

“The power of the words I AM can change how you see yourself and how you see others.  We have been conditioned to believe that who we are is ordinary – that who we are is what we have, what we do, what people think of us, what we own, and none of this is who we really are. Who we are is infinite light, divine creation, and that creation is within all of us.

We live in a society that often seeks to make us conform and fit in with everybody else, yet Sprit created each of us as a distinct, separate entity that’s unique in all of creation. Thus, in order to be inspired, we must maintain our singular individuality while seeing our connection to our Source, our light, the infinite intelligence, and to everyone and everything in the Universe. Each of us is an unparalleled idea whose time had come: We didn’t manifest to be the same as each other, but to be like God, like Source, and express ourselves as we agreed to when we merged into physical form.”

When I started my business over 10 years ago, I created my own “I AM” statements.  Others call them positive affirmations but I have always referred to them as my “I AM” statements simply because they start with the words I AM.

These two words challenge us to see life from a different and more positive perspective. But they do much more than that. Creating your own I AM statements or just using the words I AM, allows you to get out of your subconscious programming of negativity and focus on your “light”, as referred to by Wayne Dyer. In other words, we tend to look at life from a place of darkness, always focused on what’s wrong, what we don’t have or what’s not working in our lives. When we can move from this place of darkness to a place of light, we are able to free ourselves and grow. We are able to shift our behaviours and get out of the habit of being critical to seeing from the “place of oneness.”

The power of the words I AM is infinite. They can change how you see yourself, how you believe you are, how you feel about yourself and how you see the world.

So, my challenge to you is to stop and reflect. Notice the language you currently use in your thoughts and your words. Become aware of how much negativity there is just in your thoughts alone. Once you have a clearer understanding of this, make a simple change. Create your own I AM statements and say them over and over to yourself several times a day for the next 3 weeks. I guarantee you will start to see an immediate difference in your actions and behaviours.

I AM…is a move that came out in 2011. Although I haven’t seen the movie, I am fascinated to watch. If you have seen it, I’d love to hear your thoughts.  Here’s a clip to the trailer.
